Gifts of the spirit are not of the flesh. However, many people interpret the Bible based on what they know and/or their personal experiences, thus making spiritual gifts fleshly. This mindset does not line up with scripture.

“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.” – 1 Corinthians 12:1. What this verse is saying, is, followers of Christ should not be without understanding spiritual gifts. The Bible tells us that God has given at least one spiritual gift or ability to every believer. You may feel your gift is minimal or insignificant, but every talent is important in His work.

God strengthens His people so they can serve Him and share His love with the world – a world that seems more separated from Him daily. At Greater Life Church, our ultimate mission is to reach the lost, broken and hurting. As followers of God, we each have a role in this task.

“You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” -1 Corinthians 12:27

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” -1 Peter 4:10

While these gifts are manifested through natural beings, they are very much spiritual. They will not glorify you or I – they will proclaim His Lordship. Every child of God who is committed to the church and its growth, needs to seek spiritual gifts – the Bible says so. But without the desire to serve God and His people, seeking these gifts cannot truly occur.

“Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.” – 1 Corinthians 12:31

When you desire something, you show affection; you move with envy. This is how we must approach our spiritual gifts. When we yield over to the gifts, that’s when they will manifest to their full extent.

You were never meant to live just a fleshly life. You were meant to live a spiritual life.  Stay focused in the Holy Spirit, so that He can use you how He wants – anytime and anywhere.
