The most important part of every service at Greater Life Church (GLC) resides at the end. In each service, everyone has the opportunity to give their lives to Christ before they leave.

This past week alone, five people accepted the Lord as their savior. What an awesome occurrence. Life change happening instantly.

I’ve shared my testimony many times over the years – and in most cases, I get the same question: what happens after you give your life to Jesus?

The Bible tells us that we instantly become His son or daughter – forever members of His family.  When you give your life to Jesus, He gives the gift of his Holy Spirit to live in your heart. The Holy Spirit serves as many things – counselor, friend, guide, strength, peace in difficult times – you are never alone. When you belong to God, He lives within you!

“I will never leave you or forsake you” – Joshua 1:5

But that’s just the beginning.

Like any relationship, your relationship with Him needs to be fed in order to mature and grow. Pastor Keith preached on this not too long ago – and in typical fashion, he explained it in a way that is simple, yet eye-opening all at the same time. He said to think about it like a meal – if you only get fed once a week, you’ll eventually starve. The same can be said for your relationship with Jesus. If you only spend time with Him once a week on Sundays, the relationship cannot fully develop.

We must spend time with Him and learn to walk with Him daily. Spending time with God through His Word is critical to grow your relationship. The Bible is filled with His promises of love. When you read the Bible He will instruct you and guide you through the Holy Spirit.

“Blessed are those… who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord” – Psalm 89:15.

You can also achieve growth with Him in prayer– not just in times of need, but in all instances. You should express your concerns to Him, sure; but it’s important to also thank Him for all that He is doing and has done in your life.

Another way to grow closer to Him is through connecting and learning from other Christians. My relationship with God has grown dramatically over the past two plus years, thanks to the GLC family. Getting involved in the church through volunteering and joining life groups has been such a blessing in my life.  I encourage anyone who may be thinking of getting more involved at GLC to do so.

When you give your life to Jesus, your life will be different – but that’s doesn’t mean God expects perfection from you. In fact, God does not call us to be perfect. When your give it all to Him, a new life adventure with the Almighty begins – and what a feeling it is to have His awesome love in your life daily.

You can rejoice knowing that you serve a life-changing and transforming God.
